Helping those Impacted by Northern California Wildfires

Our hearts are hurting for all the farmers, farmworkers, firefighters, and families impacted by the extreme wildfires in Northern California. It’s hard to feel anything but powerless against the destructive and deadly flames being fanned by the winds and heat of nature.

The OGC team has spent years visiting this beautiful, fertile region and while our suppliers’ farms have been spared, this tight community of growers and iconic small farms are part of our extended family.

We’re hearing from friends that each day is showing small signs of improvement as fire containment grows and following trusted media sources like Civil Eats for updates and information on ways to give. We’re sending love and courage to everyone in this region and making donations to organizations on the ground providing much-needed aid.

If you would like to donate as well, here are just a few of the organizations recommended to us by our network of friends in the region.

Puente: A Latina-led organization on the San Mateo Coast that has been supporting the Latino farmworker community for years and have a fire relief fund: https://mypuente.org/

Community Alliance of Family Farmers: CAFF has a fire relief fund offering direct support to the agricultural community, in particular small farms and those falling through the cracks of traditional safety nets. https://www.caff.org/2020firefund/

Undocfund Monterey Bay: supports undocumented residents, many of whom are farmworkers: https://www.undocufundmb.org/

Undocufund: This is the original Undocufund started in Sonoma County and sprang out of the wildfires from a few years ago, again to support undocumented families, many of whom are farmworkers: https://undocufund.org/

Community Foundation Santa Cruz County: This foundation is seeking help to support those affected by the lightning complex fires. https://www.cfscc.org/updates/fire-response-fund
