Bianca Kaprielian headshot

Bianca Kaprielian

Bianca joined OGC’s Board in 2024. She grew up within eyesight of the Sierra foothills, where her family has been farming for four generations. After attending Smith College in Massachusetts, she returned to California to complete the UC Santa Cruz Apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture. Bianca began her career as a produce buyer, first at Veritable Vegetable then Whole Foods Market. In 2017, she co-founded Fruit World - an organic-first fresh and creative grower/shipper of the most flavorful fruit in California. Fruit World is all about honoring their growers, staying true to their farming heritage and keeping family farming thriving for future generations.

Brian Rohter

Brian rejoined OGC’s Board in 2016 (he was previously a member in the 1980s). He was the co-founder, president, CEO and Board Chair at New Seasons Market. He has held various positions in the food industry (including on community boards) since 1976. He currently grows organic cherries and pluots at his family’s orchard in Hood River.

Cathryn Calfo

Cathy joined OGC’s Board in 2019. She served as an executive director and CEO at various organizations since 1987, most recently leading the trade association, California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). Cathy also served as deputy treasurer for the state of California for seven years and as an analyst for the County Board of Supervisors in Santa Cruz for three years. In addition, she has served as a board member for various mission-driven entities since the 1980s. She has a B.A. in American Studies from the University of Santa Cruz.

Darren Nakata

Darren joined OGC's Board in 2025. He was born and raised in Oregon, and currently serves as the Chief Legal Officer, Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer for a publicly traded, diversified electric, gas and renewable energy company that serves 1.35 million customers across eight states. Darren has also served in leadership roles, including Board Chair, for several mission-driven and nonprofit organizations in our local community. His family formerly owned a cherry orchard in Hillsboro, Oregon, and his grandparents’ first business was a fresh fruit and vegetable market in North Portland.

Edmund LaMacchia

Edmund joined OGC’s board in 2023. He is a 40+ year veteran of the organic and natural food trade. He has worked in all aspects of the organic trade from being a gardener for Glorious Grass in the 1970s to 28 years with Whole Foods Market (12 of those years as a Global Vice President of Perishable). In addition to the OGC board, Edmund advises other mission-driven companies, such as the Organic Plus Trust. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin’s inaugural Environmental Studies Program.

Maia Larson

Maia joined OGC’s Board in 2020. She is training as a therapist and brings a healing-centered, relational lens to her work, grounded in the understanding that healthy food systems depend on the well-being of people, land, and community. She brings leadership experience across both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, offering a strategic and values-driven approach to organizational stewardship. She has a background in agriculture, community and economic development, and ecological resilience, including years running a diversified farming business. Maia lives in Eugene, OGC’s birthplace, with her family and furry friends.

Humberto Maldonado

Humberto joined OGC’s Board in 2025. He’s the Director of Safety & Compliance at Organically Grown Company. Humberto has been a member of the International Association for Food Protection since 2005 and currently serves on CCOF’s LLC Management Committee.

 Humberto previously worked for the federal government of Mexico, where he collaborated with growers and grower associations to develop food safety guidelines for green onions, avocados and berries. His experience in the fresh produce industry includes working at Driscoll’s, the largest berry distributor in the world. He was Driscoll’s first food safety employee in Mexico, later became the company’s first Organic Program Manager and finally was the Director of Food Safety and Integrity for Mexico and Latin America. 

Brenna Davis

Brenna joined OGC’s Board in 2025. She’s the CEO of Organically Grown Company. An environmental scientist turned CEO, Brenna brings a rare systems perspective to corporate governance, blending ecological insight with decades of executive leadership across seven industries and companies ranging from $20 million family businesses to $200 billion multinationals. 

 Her career is rooted in transforming business into a force for regeneration. She has led purpose-driven strategy at the U.S.’ largest cooperative grocer PCC Community Markets, collaborated with the Obama Administration on climate and health, and now stewards one of the most recognized examples of trust-based ownership in the U.S. 

 Brenna serves on the boards of Global Ocean Health and the Perpetual Purpose Trust Ownership Network, and is an NACD-certified director and Human Potential coach. She speaks and writes on the power of stakeholder governance, resilient leadership and building businesses designed to serve future generations.
