Growing in an array of colors, sizes and textures, winter squash is one of the most delicious and diverse facets of autumnal eating. With so many varieties to choose from, it’s hard to pick a favorite (we won’t even try!). But, a true standout this season is organic Honeynut squash.

Honeynut Squash

Honeynut Squash

Created at Cornell University, this hybrid of Butternut and Buttercup squashes retains the best of both varieties. With an edible peel that is also easy to peel, bright orange super-sweet flesh and perfect petite size, this squash is an all-star in the kitchen.

Joe Siri, of Siri & Son Farms, loves Honeynut noting that its “flavorful, sweet and nutty, with a hint of caramel and malt.” Beyond just delicious, Joe also points out that “Honeynut has twice the amount of beta-carotene of butternut squash,” making it both healthy and tasty.

Honeynut squash can be used in the same way you would its larger cousin the Butternut, but be prepared for more flavor! With its higher sugar content, Honeynut stands up well to stronger pairings.

OGC is proud to source our Honeynut squash and many varieties of winter squah from Siri & Son Farms. Located just outside Portland in Damascus, OR., Siri & Son is doing a phenomenal job of being both stewards of the land while also growing some of the tastiest, highest quality organic produce around! An expert in his field, when Joe Siri tells us something is delicious, we’re wise to listen!

Stock up on delightful, adorable Honeynut squash and add interest and variety to your winter squash selection!
