Get Ready to Wow: Dry Farmed Melons Arrive in Two Weeks

Intense sun, rising temperatures and dry ground all around. Viewing this semi-arid landscape on a field visit to dry farmed acreage in Oregon had our OGC team gazing at ripening melons of several exciting varieties.

Dry farming uses significantly less water and relies on soil amendments to help plants make the most of the groundwater. Not only does this conserve resources, but it also concentrates the flavor in the fruit.

In year two of experimenting with organic, dry-farmed melons, OGC has supported the expansion of plantings to increase volume for the 2024 harvest season. Based on last season’s success, OGC is excited about the variety of offerings, extending the season and meeting demand

“It’s amazing how these melons come together to showcase innovative and timely growing practices and deliver amazing flavor,” said OGC Melon Buyer Rachel Pienovi.
