Frost Kissed Artichokes: Imperfect & Extra Delicious

When temperatures in California dip below freezing, it doesn’t spell disaster for artichoke crops, but it does affect aesthetics. The outer leaves of artichokes nipped by frost turn brown and begin peeling and flaking.

Dubbed as Frost Kissed by our grower partner Ocean Mist, these limited-time artichokes boast a nutty, sweet flavor that has been enhanced by the cold, a benefit of this weather impact. Once cooked, Frost Kissed artichokes appear as green and vibrant as one normally expects.

Post-freeze, it takes a couple of weeks to begin producing standard “frost-free” crops, so encourage shoppers to take advantage of this limited window to enjoy Frost Kissed artichokes. While it may take a bit of customer education, no eater will be disappointed!

Contact your Account Rep to include Frost Kissed artichokes on your next order before they’re a delicious memory!
