Potassium Packed Produce to Help the Body in the Heat
An unprecedented heat wave is hitting the Pacific Northwest and shoppers are looking for all kinds of solutions to stay cool and hydrated as temps exceed 100 degrees. Box fans may be hard to come by, but potassium-rich produce is at the ready!
Electrolytes, including sodium, chloride and potassium, are essential for bodies to function properly and are quickly lost through perspiration. While shoppers will reach for water and sports drinks, they can also help fend off heat-related illnesses by consuming fruits and vegetables that boast high water and potassium content.
While some are obvious summer go-to goodies like watermelon and cantaloupe, eaters may be surprised to learn that other kitchen staples like mushrooms and potatoes are also rich in potassium.
Here’s a list of organic products to stock-up and talk-up this weekend!
