Summer Meets Fall in an Abundance of Flavor!
With the official beginning of Autumn, fall favorites are on the way while creating a delicious collision of flavors with the summer produce that is still available. Below is an update on how much longer to expect volume availability on summer favorites and which fall items are here or on the horizon.
NW Melons
This is the week for one last big melon push! The forecast across the region is for sun and warmer temperatures, so let’s help make the end of our growers’ season bountiful by keeping melons on shoppers’ minds. End-of-season fruit is full of sun-baked sugars, so the eating is good! Expect availability on many varieties to be over in 7-10 days.
CA & NW Stone Fruit
There are still three to four weeks to enjoy late-season stone fruit varieties, as availability is expected to extend into mid-October. Keep stone fruit displays front and center! Both yellow and white nectarines are eating great right now. There are plenty of yellow and white peaches to go around and many wonderful plum varieties available, too.
CA Persimmons, CA Pomegranates & NW Quince
Fans of these fruits will have to wait just a bit longer. Pomegranate harvest has been delayed due to cooler weather, so expect them in the next week or two. Anticipate quince to kick off in October. As for persimmons, Hachiya will likely arrive during the first ten days of the month, with Fuyu to follow shortly thereafter.
NW Radicchio, Chicories & Winter Squash
Both of these categories are just starting from our Northwest growers, and there are plenty more varieties to come. Start featuring these items to introduce eaters to varietal flavors and create early fans for strong sales into fall and winter.
Shoppers are sure to enjoy the seasonal transition with fresh, lush sets of organic fruits and vegetables that celebrate the confluence of summer and fall. Ask your Account Rep for tips and tricks for bringing in the best produce the next few weeks have to offer!
